Abstract

Reading is the process of looking at written symbols and letters and understanding the meaning of them. In other hand reading can define as an active process of constructing meanings of words. Reading is one of four skill that must be mastered by every students in learning English process. The aim of this study was to investigate Teacher’s Strategies in Teaching Reading for Eighth Grade Student at MTsN 1 Kota Blitar.The research used qualitative descriptive method to describe the detail about teacher’s strategies in teaching reading at eight grade students. In this study, the researcher used the collected data and analyzed using descriptive-qualitative analysis. Research data obtained by using observation, and interviews.Observations were made for several meetings and then interviewed with 4 studentsin MTsN 1 Kota Blitar. The result of the study showed that teacher’sstrategies in teaching reading for eight grade students of MTsN 1 Kota Blitar there are, (1) Scaffolding strategy where the students exemplifies how to read clearly and how to pronounce it well. (2) Question and Answer Relationship Strategy where the teacher gives the questions to open student’s opinion, the student may present various opinion to draw the conclusion based on the question. (3) Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy where the students are divided into several groups to find out unfamiliar vocabularies and present it in front of class. In this stage, students are allowed to present their various opinion, the teacher also asked the student to memorize the chosen vocabularies in the next meeting. By applying these strategies also make the students more active, creative and innovative to participate the teaching and learning process in the class, these strategies also help the students in thinking easier, faster, and enjoyable ways to mastering reading, these strategies also really support reading comprhensive improvement.
