ABSTRACT Lailatul, Maghfiroh. 2022. The Effectiveness of Instagram in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text. Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (1) Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M. Pd. (2) Ria Fakhrurriana, M.Pd. Key Words: Writing Skill, Instagram, Descriptive Text Writing is an important skill in learning English, and writing is an activity where writers use their ideas and creativity to make good paragraphs. The purpose of using Instagram on writing skills is to teach and develop students' writing skills and facilitate student learning skills. There are many techniques for teaching writing to students that can be used by teachers. To help students learn to write, one of the learning media used is information and communication technology. This study used a quasi-experimental design, researchers used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The test results consist of pre-test and post-test both experimental class and control class. Data were obtained by giving tests to the experimental class and control class after being given treatment in teaching the two classes. The test was followed by 30 experimental class students and 30 control class students. In the treatment method, several discussions were held together with the number one meeting being given a pre-test, giving treatment 3 times for the experimental class and control class, and post-testing for the experimental class and control class at the last meeting. The results of this study indicate that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted because the significance value of hypothesis testing by ANCOVA test was lower than > (5% or 0.05) from the results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test that the significant value (p) of the test is .134 for the pre-test of experimental class, .200 for pre-test control class, .148 for post-test experimental class, and .200 for the post-test control class (p > 0.05). After that, the researcher analyzed the data with homogeneity test. It homogeneity test showed that (p) was 0.401 (p > 0.05). Homogeneity regression showed that (p) was 0.427 (p > 0.05). Relationship between covariate and dependent variable were linear at 0.000 (p < 0.05).
