Abstract

Mahendra, Aditya. 2022. Psychological Factors in Characater Development adn Student Interest in Learning English After The Pandemic Situation. Thesis. English Language for Educations Departement. The Faculty of Education. State of Islamic Institute of Kediri. Supervisor (I) Erna Nur Kholida, M.Pd. Supervisor (II) Nur Afifi, M. App. Ling, PH. D. Key Words: Development, Psychology, Interest The main focus of this research is to find out and describe the psychological factors after pandemic situation on the character development of students who have been through the process of online learning activities for a long time when learning English as as foreign language. This research is expected to be a reference for teachers and instructors in understanding the psychological condition of students who have long experienced an extraordinary transition period, and will return to normal. This research alludes to Sigmund Freud's Psychodynamics theory, which was refined by Erikson under the label Psychosocial, where development is a dynamic and active process that is heavily impacted by individual elements present from birth as well as emotional and social events. As a result, when doing study, researchers consider these factors. According to the study's findings, each indication had two key contributors: stress and emotional elements that affect character development, as well as cognitive factors and engagement that affect students' interest in learning. These elements result from the psychological situations that students experience as a result of adjusting to vastly diverse settings in the educational and social environments. The conclusions of this study are consistent with the findings of other studies, such as the findings of Andi Dahliani's research, which showed that students' interest in studying during the COVID-19 epidemic was moderate, with a percentage of 75.9%. Where the findings of this study have the same value, relating to the value rubric for student engagement in learning. In order to better understand the psychological state of adolescents who are still developing to eventually form a mature personality, this research needs to be expanded upon in order to explore the details of character development and student interests that have not been covered by this research design.
