Abstract
Writing is the most difficult part in learning English. The students can not write without mastering language components such as grammar, vocabulary, and spelling words. Writing narrative text is difficult for many students, because when writing narrative text it need undestand the generic structure of narrative text. This study aimed obtan evidence writing ability and generic structure of narrative text. This study also aimed to determine the extent can affect the students’ writing skill in writing narrative text. The research method was used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The main istrument used to collected the data written test.The data was taken from students of class XII at SMAN 7 Kediri. The total number was 29 students. Researcher collected the data used assigment and documentation. After got the data from assigment, then the data was analyzed by using rubric adaptep from Jacob 1981 to analyze the data. Based on the result of the study, the data showed in writing ability all of students got good classification. And in analyze generic structure the students who got lowest level was 1 student, medium level was 5 students, and higher level was 23 students. It can be concluded that students can uncerstand well the aspect of writing and generic stucture of narrative text.
