Abstract

Millynia, Olivia N. 2023. “An Analysis of Teaching Strategies in English Class at Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 6 Kediri”. A graduating paper. Department of English Language Education. Faculty of Tarbiyah. State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Erna Nurkholida, M.Pd., (II) Mohammad Muhyidin, M.Pd. Keywords: Teaching Strategies, English Class, The aims of the research to analyze teaching strategies in English class and how to implement teaching strategies in English class. This research used qualitative research method. The research was design in descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research were three English teachers at SMAN 6 Kediri as respondents. In collecting the data, the researcherused interview, observation, and questionnaire. The researcher used three major phases of the data analysis, there were; data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The result of this research found that teachers applied several strategies in English class namely filling gap and rearrange sentences or paragraph, role play, retelling a story, oral presentation, brainstorming, jigsaw, skimming, and semantic mapping, cooperative learning, problem based learning, and collaborative writing. Moreover, the implementation of these strategies is; for filling gap students to listen to audio or a song, in the middle of the time the teacher turns it off, then students can fill in the blanks while listening to them. Filling Gap strategy is effective, can hone students' listening skills and enrich their English vocabulary. For oral presentation, students presenting in front of the class assignments that have been given by the teacher, it can help students' skills in explaining, presenting information, ideas. For skimming, read the title reading first, then read the entire opening paragraph, and read the concluding paragraph because the concluding paragraph has summarized the entire contents of the reading, this strategy provides benefits for students because it takes a shorter duration than usual, staying focused on understanding the material conveyed by the author. Moreover, for cooperative learning the teacher forms students in groups and divides the tasks of each member, then students are asked to search the internet for as much information related to the material students rewrite the information, they get using their words, by apply cooperative learning, students have social skills, especially in working together.
