Abstract

Writing is one of an important skill to learn. Writing is an activity in which the writers take their ideas and creativity someone to make some good paragraph it also need process to learn writing there are five components of writing to master it, those are content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics. Recount text is a text that tells about something occurred in the past in order to give information or entertainment into chronologically of what had happened. The aim of this study is to know the effectiveness of using Instagram on students’ writing recount text at tenth grade MAN 2 Kediri. The media Instagram, Instagram is social media as an active mobile learning tool in the language bridge program. Instagram has potential to be a language learning tool in terms of language skills. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was quasi experimental research. The population of this study is tenth grade students of MAN 2 Kediri the academic year of 2019-2020. The sample of this study, researcher took two classes from the same population that consist of 30 students for the research and the instrument is writing test the research used ANCOVA data analysis. The result of this study has shown that the data was normally distributed. It was proved by the Kolmogorov-Smornov Test, shows that (0.143) > α (0.05), (0.081) > α (0,05), (0.200) > α (0.05), (0,200 > α (0.05 ). The Levene’s Test shows that experimental and control group has the same ability. The result is p (0.254) > α (0.05). Then, the homogenity regression shows that p (0.103) > α (0.05). Means there is no interaction between covariate and independent variable. The last assumption is the output of ANCOVA showed that the significant value was p (0.000) < α (0.05). it means that there was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis. Based on the findings above, the researcher conclude that Instagram is an effective teaching strategy to improve the students’ writing skill.
