Abstract
Writing is one of the main skills in learning English. Writing is an activity in which the writers take their ideas creativity someone to make statements and paragraphs that are easy for the reader to understand. Students have difficulty writing narrative texts because students spend a lot of time thinking and planning ideas before they start writing; students have problems with spelling and Grammar. In this study, the researcher find that animated videos can be used to express students’ ideas, grammatical, and vocabulary to create a text. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of animated videos for teaching writing at SMAN 7 Kota Kediri. The design of this study is a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental group and control group. The researcher used animated video in experimental group and in control group used pictures series to teach the students on writing narrative text. The participants of this study were 67 students from two classes. X-1 as the experimental group consists 35 of students and X-2 as the control group consists 32 of students from SMAN 7 Kota Kediri. The data are collected by using test, including pretest and posttest of writing. The outcomes of the pretest and posttest data were analyzed using Mann Whitney with SPSS program since the data were not normal. The result of the data analysis showed that there is difference between the experimental group and the control group. The mean score of the experimental group was 86.06 and the mean of the control group was 81.12. The calculated showed result of the mean scores of students in the experimental class who were taught by using animated video got higher scores than the scores of students in the control class who were taught by using pictures series. The result of the Mann-Whitney test obtained a Z of -5.105 with a significance value of 0.000. The significance value is less than 0.05, so based on the decision-making criteria Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that animated video as media to teach writing ability on narrative text is effective.
