Abstract

Teh problem in this study is regarding students' understanding of reading skills. Students do not understand and do not master reading skills. coz of that, students appear lazy to learn English. It is not uncommon for students to neglect learning English. teh purpose of this study is to improve students' reading skills in descriptive text. Based on teh description in teh research context, teh authors explain teh research focus, namely How can teh Numbered Head Together type of cooperative learning model improve student reading skills in teh seventh grade English subject at SMPN 1 Berbek?. This research is a classroom action research conducted at SMPN 1 Berbek Nganjuk for teh 2022/2023 academic year. This research was conducted in August 2022. Teh subjects in this study were 32 students in class 7C. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. As for teh data collection instruments wif tests, observations, and documentation. Teh data collected, tan analyzed wif qualitative and quantitative analysis. Teh results showed that in teh pre-cycle teh average score of teh 7C class students reached of 73.59, there were 22 students who completed and 10 students did not complete wif a percentage of class completeness of 68.75%. This proves that in teh pre-cycle students' reading ability is still not complete and teh results obtained by students are not optimal. After teh first cycle was held, teh average was 79.21, there were 28 students who completed and 4 students did not complete wif a percentage of completeness that was 87.5%. At this stage of teh first cycle, teh learning outcomes have been very good and have met teh criteria for class completeness, namely 75%.
