Abstract

Reading while listening strategy is combination of reading and listening. The implementation is, the students receive the text while listening the audio of the text. In this case, researcher uses reading while listening strategy to improve speaking skill of 11th grade of SMK Terpadu Khoirot, Kandat. The researcher uses classroom action research (CAR) as research design, and it is done with school English teacher. 4 steps will be done by the researcher, they are preliminary study, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the action. Preliminary study is done before the cycle and each cycle consists of 4 steps which has explained before. The criteria of success of this research is 85%, which the students should get minimally 75 (KKM) to pass the test. The result of preliminary study was, the students could not understand the material and could not deliver the idea in English, they did not know about the words and paused the idea when speaking. The percentage of preliminary study was 0%. In cycle 1, 4 students passed the test after did reading while listening strategy. Furthermore, they were more active to talk and ask when they did not understand the material. In other side, 7 students did not the pass and they were still confuse to speak English. The percentage of cycle 2 was 36.36%. In cycle 2, 11 students passed the test after did reading while listening. They could speak English without pause the audio and fluently. The percentage of cycle 2 was 100%. Based on this result, reading while listening could improve speaking skill, and the students can convey the idea without pausing and fluently.
