ABSTRACT Deny, P, S. 2022. "The Effectiveness of Facebook Status to Teach Writing Narrative Text at Senior High School". Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Education State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Advisor (I) Dr. Thoyyibah, S,S., Mpd (II) Dr. Ay Setya Budhi Ningrum, M.Pd. Keyword : Effectiveness, Teaching Writing, Narrative Text, Facebook Writing is one of the basic skills of English that students must master. Students often find some difficulties in mastering writing skills. In teaching narrative text teacher must be creative to make students interested in material to be taught. Teacher can use Facebook as their way to teach students. The aims of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of Facebook in teaching writing narrative text to the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kota Kediri. The design of this research was quasi-experimental. The population was students of class XI in SMK Negeri 2 Kota Kediri. The samples were two classes devided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was class XI-AKL 2 consisting of 30 students, and the control group was class XI-AKL 4 consisting of 30 students. The researcher used test as the instrument of the research. The format of the test is writing test. In analyzing data, the researcher used Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) by SPSS Program 24.0 version. The result of assumption by ANCOVA indications that: (1) The data is normally distributed, (2) the variance between experimental and control group is homogeneous; (3) there is no interaction between pre-test and post-test group; and (4) the relationship between pre-test and post-test is linear. The end of the assumption of ANCOVA showed that the significant value is 0.000 smaller than 0.05 (0.000< 0.05) it means that there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (HO) and accept the alternative hypothesis (Ha). From the result of the research, there have been a different mean between students from the experimental group who were taught by using Facebook and also students from the control group who were taught using PowerPoint. Based on the explanation, it can be concluded that Facebook is effective in teaching writing for the eleventh grade senior high school students.
