Abstract
Interest of something is arising from the individual’s interested to something because of their requirement or their feeling that something- they will be learned- will mean for them. Interest in learning English is very important to increase students’ achievement. Besides, students are expected to have ability to create information, to question, search and contribute information, to adopt and to apply their own thought. Here, a critical thinking plays crucial roles in creating students thinking and dealing with English language achievement. This study was aiming at seeking the degree of the correlation among critical thinking disposition, reading interest and english achievement of the eleventh-grade students of MAN 3 Nganjuk. This study was a quantitative study with a correlational design. There were three variables namely critical thinking disposition (x1), reading interest (x2), and English achievement (y). The participants of the research were 154 students from 7 classess of eleventh grade of MAN 3 Nganjuk. There were two sets of questionnaires used to measure students’ critical thinking disposition and reading interest, and the English achievement was obtained from students’ mid-test score. The data were analyzed using correlational statistic test namely Kendall tau-b test since the normality of the data was not achieved. The results revealed that there was a significant correlation between reading interest and critical thinking disposition (sig. value = .000 ≤ 0.05). The strength of the correlation of reading interest and critical thinking disposition was .484 (r =.484) which means that the correlation was moderate. If reading interest tent to be high, the students’ critical thinking disposition also increase. Next, the correlation between students’ reading interest and English achievement showed significant correlation (.000 < 0.05). The strength of the correlation coefficient of reading interest and English achievement is .523 which mean that the correlation was moderate. Next, there was a significant correlation between students’ critical thinking disposition and English achievement of eleventh grade students of MAN 3 Nganjuk (.000 < 0.05). In accordance with the strength of the correlation between critical thinking disposition and English achievement, it was found weak correlation (r= .310). There was a significant contemporaneous association between reading interest and critical thinking disposition and English achievement (.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, the coefficient correlation (R) is 0.745, indicating that the association between variables was strong
