Abstract

Language cannot be separated from human life because it is essential in every aspect of life, such as technology, education, sciences, politics, economics, art, etc. In art, for example, namely song. The songs have the imaginative quality and specific characteristics of the language use, such as denotation and connotation. Therefore, the present study aimed at: 1) analyzing the types of figurative language in Harris Jung‟s album “Salam”; and 2) analyzing the most dominant figurative language found in Harris Jung‟s album “Salam”. This study is descriptive qualitative study. The source of data is the song lyric of Salam album by Harris Jung which consists of 12 songs. In this research, the instrument that the writer uses is note-taking. In collecting the data, the researcher listened carefully and identified the data based on the types of figurative language. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed the data by giving description and explaining the actual meaning. It is found that there are five kinds of figurative language namely simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and transferred epithet. Furthermore, the figurative language personification is the most dominant figurative language found in Harris Jung‟s album with the number of percentages 33%, followed by hyperbole 30%, metaphor 21%, simile 14%, and transferred epithet 2%. Furthermore, this study is still limited as it only covers the figurative language found in the Harris Jung‟s album “Salam” without any further analysis. It is recommended for the future researcher to also focus on other elements of the songs, not only the figurative language, so that, the meaning of the whole song.
