Abstract

The researcher aimed to describe the kinds of comparative figurative languages and the meaning of each comparative figurative languages that the author used in Maybe Someday novel. This thesis three categories of comparative figurative languages, they are simile, metaphor, and personification. in those types of comparative figurative language, the author used plants, inanimate objects, attitude, situation and condition so that the readers can understand clearly the objective of the author expression. In this research, the writer uses qualitative method. The writer explains some theories that related to comparative figurative languages, and then collects the data from the novel. Based on the theories, the writer selects some sentences which are contained of comparative figurative languages and analyzes them one by one to know the kinds of comparative figurative languages used, and the meaning of them. As the result of analysis performed, the writer concludes the most frequently used in Maybe Someday novel is personification. She found eight simile, twelve metaphor and fourteen personification. The writer also noticed the characteristic of the types in each sentence.
