Abstract

Writing is a process that involves organizing and finding your thoughts, putting them on paper, and then reshaping and editing. In this era, students need an interesting media to support their learning process. Digital outlining strategy can be one technological tool that teachers can use to increase students' interest. The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of using digital outlining strategy in teaching writing expository text This research was conducting by using quantitative method with quasi-experimental method as the design. The instrument is writing test which are pre-test and post-test. The sample of this research is classified into two classes at tenth grade of MAN 3 Nganjuk. It consists of 46 students of tenth grade of MAN 3 Nganjuk. The first class is class X-7 as the experimental class, and the second class is class X-6 which is as the control class. Experimental class is taught by using digital outlining strategy while control class is taught by using free-writing strategy. This research used writing test as an instrument to collect the data. The researcher analysed the data by using ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariate) in IBM SPSS 26.0 The result of this research can be seen from the mean of both of pre-test and post-test experimental and control class. The mean of pre-test score experimental is 58,55 and control class is 65,08. While, the mean of post-test experimental is 81,45 and control class is 58,55. It showed that the experimental class got higher mean’s score than control class. The result of ANCOVA showed that the significant value is ,000 which is lower than 0,05 (0,05 > 0.000). It is indicated that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is significant different between students that have been taught using digital outlining strategy and students who are taught using free-writing strategy in teaching expository text.
