Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify whether or not correlation between students’ vocabulary learning strategies and their writing ability. This study is quantitative method, specifically correlational design. The method of selecting samples used cluster random sampling, which took class VIII-A and VIII-D with the number of samples were 59 students MTsN 1 Kota Kediri. The instruments of this study are questionnaire and writing test. The result of this study shows that there is correlation between students’ vocabulary learning strategies and their writing ability, with the sig. value 0.000. The value of Pearson Correlation (r) showed 0.823, it means that it has a very strong correlation. This correlation is positive correlation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the more students use many strategies, the better their writing ability. In addition, the students’ level of vocabulary learning strategies is in medium level and their writing ability is in good category.
