Abstract

Learning experiences are activities carried out by students with the aim of gaining new competencies in accordance with the learning objectives. Especially for EFL learners, who live in boarding schools and in those boarding schools there is an English speaking program. It is very interesting to know their experiences when learning to speak. This study was conducted to find out the experiences that students get when learning to speak and to find out the speaking learning techniques used. This research uses the qualitative method of narrative inquiry. Data was collected from observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were fourth semester students who were not majoring in English and those not majoring in education (tarbiyah) in IAIN Kediri stay at Sharif Hidayatullah Cyber Pesantren. The researcher described the students' experience in learning speaking at the pesantren based on Harmer's theory and explained the speaking techniques used in the process of learning speaking at the pesantren based on Harmer's theory. The finding and discussion explain that the researcher found that students' learning experiences when learning speaking. Not only that, there is also the experience of learning speaking together using media. In addition, they get the same treatment from tutors in the form of learning experience through tutors explain with mixed language. Then, the speaking learning experience they get from various activities. The researcher found that there are four techniques used, namely, acting from script, discussion, role play, game communication. The four techniques are used to make it easier for students to learn speaking.
