Abstract

Grammar is the rules of English. Grammar plays an important role in writing English so that it is easily to understand. This research used EGRA as the teaching technique. There are four steps of EGRA technique : Experience, Generalization, Reinforcement, and Application. By using this technique the students try to find out the form or pattern and function of the sentence by themselves. This research used CAR (Classroom Action Research) to conduct the research. Four steps in CAR are : planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research applied two cycle, every cycle has two learning meetings. This research was aimed to Improving Student’s Grammar Mastery for VIII-A grade students of SMPN 2 Sawahan Nganjuk. The subject in this research are 30 students of VIII-A grade. The location was taken in the SMPN 2 Sawahan Nganjuk. from the calculation of students score in pre-cycle, post test I, and post test II. (1) in pre-cycle, the average students score success was 26,66%. (2) while cycle I, the average of students score post test I success was 56,67% and for the average of students observation score was 70%. (3) then cycle II, who passed KKM score with the average was 86,67%. it was 87,5% for the average of students observation score. It can be conclude that EGRA technique is able to improving the students grammar mastery.
