Nur, Zohral Falah. 2022. The Effectiveness of Using English Cartoon Movies on Student’s Vocabulary Mastery at MTS N 7 Kediri. English Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Kediri. Advisor: (I) Mohammad Muhyidin, M.Pd. (II) Nurul Aini, M.Pd. Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Teaching vocabulary, Cartoon Movie Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are the four capacities of the English language. One of those abilities is vocabulary. If the vocabulary requirements restrict one from expressing one's thoughts, he or she will be unable to do so. The objective of the study is to investigate whether the use of cartoon movie more effective than textbook method in teaching vocabulary to the seventh grade students at MTS N 7 Kediri. To achieve the purpose of this study, the design used is the quasi experimental research. The subject of this research is the students at the seventh grade students of MTS N 7 Kediri in the second semester in the academic year of 2021/2022 that consists 64 students. The subjects are divided into two classes, VII A class as experimental group and VII B class as control group. Class VII A is taught by using cartoon movie and class VII B is taught by using textbook method. To collect the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test at experimental and control group. The result of the tests was analyzed by using ANCOVA through SPSS 25.0. Based on the data analysis, the result of statistical computation of ANCOVA reveals that the significant value was Sig = 0.000< 0.05. Since the significant value was smaller than 0.05 statistically, there was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis. It means that the students who were taught by using cartoon movie got significantly better vocabulary mastery than the students who were taught by using textbook. Therefore, the hypothesis “the students who are taught by using cartoon movie get better vocabulary mastery than the students who are taught by using textbook method” is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of cartoon movie is more effective than the use of textbook in teaching vocabulary mastery.
