Abstract

Reading skills are very important in learning English in the classroom. The ability to read students can affect the level of understanding of students in a material in learning English. However, students are not understanding more about a material in class, there are many factors that cause that problem. The author believes whether the factors that cause the weakness of students in understanding a reading in English because of they do not have confidence in concluding the meaning contained in the reading. Therefore, the researcher is interested in finding out the correlation between self-confidence, self-efficacy and English reading achievement. This research was aimed to find out whether there is a relationship between self-confidence, self-efficacy and reading achievement of second grade students and how extent is the relationship of all these variables. This research used multiple correlation design. The data were obtained through spreading questionnaire of self-confidence, questionnaire of self-efficacy and test of reading skill and having the multiple choice questions on google form. The data were analysed by using an SPSS Program version 25 namely multiple linier regression that focus on correlation among Self-Confidence on reading achievement, correlation between Self-Efficacy on reading achievement and whether there is a positive and significant relationship among Self-Confidence and Self-Efficacy with English reading skill of second grade students of MAN 3 Nganjuk. The finding of this research showed that there is no correlation between independent variables that is self-confidence and self-efficacy into dependent variable that is English reading achievement. The results of this study indicated that the value of sig. the Self-Confidence results are greater than r-table that is 0.395> 0.05 and the results of t-count are smaller than t-table which is 0.857 <1.996. this means that H1 is rejected and H0 is accepted, and for the SelfEfficacy is that the value of sig. the results of Self-Efficacy are greater than r-table that is 0.210> 0.05 and the results of t-count are smaller than t-table which is - 1.266 <1.996. this means that H1 is rejected and H0 is accepted, hence, all these are no relationship between the Self-Confidence variable, Self-Efficacy variable of English Reading Achievement of second grade students of MAN 3 Nganjuk. Thus, it can be concluded that there are no significant correlation among SelfConfidence, Self-Efficacy and English Reading achievement of second grade students of MAN 3 Nganjuk.
