Abstract
Podcast is a digital audio file whose function can be used and accessed flexibly. It is often used as a learning medium to improve students' listening skills, especially in English which can be listened to on computers, MP3 players, or mobile phones. Meanwhile, the Spotify application is a platform or application that is currently popular for listening to songs and podcasts. Through this Spotify, students can listen to podcasts with several interesting themes for English learning media. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of podcasts (Spotify) to improve the English listening skills of eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Kediri. The study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The subjects of this research were class XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Kediri. The two classes selected as samples were class XI MIPA 7 as the experimental group and class XI MIPA 8 as the control class. During the data collection process, students in the experimental class obtained an average pretest score of 60.29 and the control group was 63.29. In addition, the average post-test score of the experimental group was 75.59, and that of the control group was 70.57. The results of the post-test show that students in the experimental group have a higher average score than students in the control group. This means that the use of Spotify podcast media affects students' interest and listening skills. It can also be concluded that there are significant influences and differences between using Spotify podcasts and audio textbooks as listening learning media.
