Abstract
Speaking is one of the most important skills when learning a foreign language, especially English. Speech is the ability to express and convey ideas and feelings in words. Researchers have found that many students learning English still struggle with teaching and learning. This is mainly because high school teachers often use traditional methods in the teaching and learning process. This method is not effective for students. Students get bored and need a lot of time to master speaking in conversation and communication. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) Methods for Students in Speaking Class SMAN 1 Grogol Kediri. This study employs a quasi-experimental research design. This design uses pretests and posttests to assess students' speaking ability before and after treatment. The study population consists of students from class X SMAN 1 Grogol Kediri. Samples he was taken in two classes, one class serving as experimental class X-8 with 36 students and the other class serving as control class X-7 with 35 students. . Researchers collected data using the instrument in pretests and posttests. The test equipment speaks. After post-testing, the researchers used his SPSS 21.0 to analyze the data. The results of this study showed that the data are normally distributed. Using the Shapiro-Wilk test, p(0.266) for the pre-test experimental group, p(0.212) for the pre-test control group, p(0.135) for the post-test experimental group, and p(0.165) for the post-test control group has been proven. These were higher than α(0.05). Leven's test gave p(0.920) > α(0.05). Homogeneity regression showed p(0.419) > α(0.05). This means that there is no interaction between covariate and independent variables. ANCOVA results then showed a significant value of p(0.000)<0. α(0.05). There was sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis. Based on the above findings, researchers conclude that contextual teaching and learning method is effective techniques to improve students' speaking skills.
