Abstract
The approach of this research is to know how well influence new method in teaching reading with different method. The reading class is expected to be able to increase the students’ interest, motivation, and ability to read. Besides, children learn best when they are motivated and are interested in the activity or being involved in activities, which are relevant to them. Authentic materials as media for reading materials might be used more effectively to develop student’s interest and motivation in learning reading comprehension. The use of authentic material in class rather than material specifically written for learners is to provide more variety and authenticity to the lesson. The general question of this study is “Does the effectiveness of using authentic materials in teaching reading at the first year student of MTs Al Manar?” Based on the problem of the study, the purpose of this study is “To know whether the use of authentic materials significantly increase students’ reading achievement. To do this research, the researcher decides to take the population and sample. The researcher takes two of them there is VII A and VII B as sample. The researcher decides to choose VII A as the experimental group and VII B as the control group. There are 33 students at control group and 33 students at experimental group. One group will be taught by using authentic materials and other group will be taught without authentic materials. The researcher used Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) through SPSS to get complete data which explain more about the analysis of the students; score in control and experimental group that indicate the influence of using authentic material in teaching reading. The mean of the difference score post – test between the experimental and control group shows that the experimental group is higher than control group. The mean of the experimental group is 74.42. In other hand the mean of the control group is 54.76. From these result, the experimental group shows significant achievement than the control group.
