Abstract

This research talks about the analysis of discourse from visual media and it is taken from a YouTube Channel to see how the use of language in a person's actions when representing an expression in real life. Additionally, the author combined to see language text styles such as the context of the media, discursive practice such the production and consumption, then the sociocultural views through history, and social-political values that appear in each scene. The urgency of the researcher to choose this topic is to look at it from a pedagogical view, which is in academic education from a linguistics point but still slips the character education values conveyed in the discourse in this audiovisual media. In this study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative design to analyze critical discourse analysis topics with visual media from ‘Learn English With Tv Series’ YouTube Channel: Peaky Blinders as the primary source of data that uses Norman Fairclough theory, including sociocultural and language text analysis such as active passive voice, naming, pre and post modifier, then direct and indirect quotation. Several steps in this data analysis process include searching the source data, selecting which to focus on the research problem, classifying, analyzing, and explaining, and also making conclusions based on Norman Fairclough's CDA approach to answer from research problem. The result of this study shows 34 data conversations that are organized into 17 datums where each datum has been identified and analyzed by the author in terms of language text elements consisting of active, passive voice, individual, collective naming, pre-post modifier, and direct, indirect quotation; discursive text which consists of text production and consumption; and the last is the sociocultural foundation which consists of historical, social and cultural context.
