Abstract

Reading is a process, there is a reader and there is text, and the result of this process is understanding, according to Hasibuan and Ansyari (2007). This means that reading is a process, there are readers, and the result is understanding. An issue that has been raised quite a lot in an investigation because the typical reading ability of high school students is still relatively low. In reading, one of the challenges students often face is distinguishing subject matter, main ideas, and other elements of a text, among other challenges. Reading is very important for human existence because it allows us to be informed about all the current events in the world and what is happening here and now. Reading could develop into a very interesting hobby in the future, depending on the steps we take to ensure that it is something that will interest more people. Thus the purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using the fix-up strategy in learning reading comprehension. The research design used in this research is quasi-experimental through a quantitative approach. Meanwhile the samples were taken from class XII Social 1 and XII Social 2. In class XII Social 1 there were 34 students and in class XII Social 2 there were 34 students. And then the research instrument uses pre-test and post-test. While the data analysis uses the Ancova test. The researcher analyzed the data with a normality test and showed that the data were normally distributed. From the results of the Kolmogorov - Smirnov test, it can be seen that the significant value of the pre-test is 0.921 and the post-test is 0.942 it showed that the significant is higher than 0,05, so the data distribution is normal. Furthermore, the researchers analyzed the data with homogeneity test. The homogeneity test showed 0.363 and the homogeneity regression showed 0.141. After that the results of the relationship between the covariates and the dependent variable showed linear in (0.000 < 0.05).The results of this study indicate that the students' average score in reading before treatment was 62.36 and after treatment using the fix-up strategy was 82.94. Then, the ANCOVA results show a result of 0.000 that 0.000 is smaller than 0.05. This means that the hypothesis is not rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the fix-up strategy is effective in learning reading comprehension in class XII students of MAN 3 Blitar. The researchers can create an interesting teaching and learning process in class because students can feel happy. There are several significant differences between the experimental class and the control class.
