Key Terms: Writing, Social Media, Social Media as Media of Teaching Writing Social media has entered various walks of life, from the young, the old, to minors who have also used social media. Almost all human activities today are in contact with social media. Studying, doing business, even chatting casually with family often use social media. The habit of using social media can indirectly make its users access information and learn the information they access, so it is not surprising that currently the development and spread of language is going very fast. The use of social media brings so many conveniences for its users. With all the facilities provided by social media. Therefore, the writer wants to know types of social media used by students, to find out how social media is used for students' writing skills, and to find out what are the consequences of using social media in writing skills. The present study aims to scrutinize the efficiency of using social media on EFL learners’ writing skill in MTs Al Fajar Kandat academic year of 2022/2023. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this study were students of eight grade and English teacher of MTs Al Fajar Kandat. There were 19 students and 1 English teacher as participants. The data of this research were collected by observation and supported by questionnaire and interview. The data analysis comprises: data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. Then, to point out the trustworthiness of the data, this research used triangulation based on data. These findings indicate that social media today plays an important role in the advancement of students' writing skills. This research covers four social media Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. This study it was found that TikTok is a social media that is widely used by students at this time. The results of this study also show that today's students spend a lot of time using social media, not only to refresh the mind, but social media also has many other benefits in learning writing skills. Students’ use social media to search for something by opening one of the social media applications, namely Google, TikTok and YouTube. Students use Google to find subject matter that is not understood in class, and they use TikTok and YouTube to view videos that explain more interesting subject matter. The results of this study concluded that 5% of students agree that social media affects their writing skills, 53% of students answered neutrally. 37% answered disagree, 5% answered strongly agree that social media affects their writing skills and twenty-six students answered strongly disagree because some of them are not allowed to hold cell phones by their parents. The result of teacher questions also shows that teachers also use social media to further improve and attract students in xii learning English, the teacher uses YouTube as a means to listen to stories that will then be written by students using their own language, the teacher also uses YouTube when there is material that is difficult to learn, the teacher will explain through YoTube and then explain again by the teacher, especially writing skills.
