ABSTRACT Istiana, Lita. 2021. Directive Speech Act Analysis Of The Main Character In How To Train Your Dragon Movie Script. English Department, Faculty of Education, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisors (1) Drs. Agus Edi Winarto, M.Pd. (2) Nurul Aini, M.Pd. Keywords: Speech Act, Directive, Movie This research studies about speech acts analysis. The classification of speech act is locutionary, illocutionary, perlocutionary. This research analyze; How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World movie script using illocutionary act that is directive speech act. The objectives ofthis research are to find the kinds of directive speech that utter by the main character. The main character is character which determine the storyline in movie. The researcher acquire the data from the movie and script. This research is a qualitative research by employing descriptive method. The result tends to focus on the main character utterances meaning. The data of this research are taken from the kinds directive speech acts in dialogues in the movie. The instrument of this research is the researcher herself who collects, analyzes, and presents the data findings of the research then conclude the conclusion. The researcher applied the trustworthiness of the data to obtain the valid data. The result of the analysis shows four kinds of directive speech acts uttered. Those are command, request, suggestion, and warning. On the script of How to Train Your Dragon Movie: The Hidden World movie. There are 22 data (44%) belong to command, 2 data (4%) belong to request, 14 data (28%) belong to suggestion, and 8 data (24%) belong to warning. Command happen when the conversation between two people which the speaker is a leader or captain. Request commonly used by people who is not too expert about the case to asks listener who understand more about the case. Suggestion occurs showing about caring to the hearer by giving opinion that benefical to the hearer. Warning occurs showing about the threating to the listener. Directive speech act in command was dominant and the characters often used imperative to get the hearer to do something.
