Thesis, English Department, Faculty of Education, IAIN Kediri, Advisors: (1) Dra. Nurul Ain, M.Pd, (2) Nurul Aini, M.Pd. Keyword :Illocution Act, Types of Illocution, The Father Movie. This research is entitled “An Analysis of Illocutionary Act in the Main Character Utterances in The Father Movie”. This study aims to describe the form of illocutionary speech acts and describe the assertive, directive, expressive, co missive, and declarative of illocutionary speech acts in the film The Father. The main target in this research is the speech of the actors in the film The Father. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the aim of obtaining an objective description of the Illocutionary of the actors in the film The father. The data collection techniques used in this study were to refer to the conversational chapters, and observation techniques. The data collection technique was used by researchers to obtain complete data regarding illocutionary speech acts. Researchers conducted data analysis covering 4 stages: Identification, Classification, Interpretation, and reporting. The results of the research found 5 types of illocutionary forms, namely Assertive act with 6 (30%) data, Directive act with 1 (5%) data, Expressive act with 10 (50%) data, Co missive act with 2 (10%) data and Declarative act with 1 (5%) data. The results of this research prove that to understand the meaning and purpose of an utterance, one must understand the context of the situation that underlies the utterance. Understanding the context of the situation is very influential when a speech event occurs and reduces the existence of one interpretation of the meaning of the speech.
