Abstract

ABSTRAC Stori. R. M. 2021. “Improving Students’ Writing on Recount Text by Using Inside-Outside Circle (IOC) Technique in The Second Year Students of MTs Al-Amien”. Kediri Academic Year of 2020/2021 Final Project. Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute of Kediri.The advisor is Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M. Pd and Nurul Aini, M.Pd. Key Terms: Inside Outside Circle, Writing Skill, Recount Text In English, there are four skills that should be mastered by students, they are listening, reading, speaking, and also writing. Writing becomes most difficult ability in English. However, writing is one of the most difficult skills to be mastered. In the preliminary that was conducted before doing the real research, the researcher found that the student ability in their writing was low and still in under of SKM (75); most students were passive in the learning and teaching process. Then the researcher starts to plan the real research. This research was intended to find out whether inside-outside circle (IOC) technique can improve students‟ writing skill or not. The research was conducted at MTs Al-Amien Ngasinan. The subject of this research was the students of IX class at that school. The research design employed in this study is classroom action research. In conducting the research, the research design some instrument to get the data. They are: a) Test. The test it to know students‟ writing skill and to see the progress of their writing ability, b) Observation checklist. Observation checklist is to know the activities in the teaching learning process at MTs Al-Amien Ngasinan. The result of this research showed that used inside-outside circle technique in the teaching and learning process of writing was believed to be effective to improve the student‟s writing skill of nine at MTs Al-Amien Ngasinan Kota Kediri. thr students‟ writing problems in content, vocabulary, language use can be reduced by using inside-outside circle technique in the and learning process of writing. Moreover, it made the students more enthusiastic to learn and also could develop their own ideas when written. For the students writing scores were measured quantitatively by comparing the mean score of meeting 1 and meeting 2 in cycle 1. The result showed that the average score of the students‟ writing improved from 52 % in the meeting 1 to 68% in the meeting 2. And the result of students who got score least 75 were 10% from cycle 1. And were 92 % form meeting 2 in the cycle 2. Based on finding above, the researcher concludes that inside-outside circle technique was effective for used in teaching writing skill to nine grade students of MTs Al-Amien Ngasinan Kota Kediri.
