Abstract

English as a global communication language used internationally. Communicating using English can be found in almost all environment, namely education, clothing, food, work and others. In order to master English properly and correctly, it is necessary to understand the skills in English. Some of basic skills need to be trained to communicate with others. One of the basic skills in English in terms of communication is writing. Writing is a basic form of communication skill that occurs around us which happens all the time. This basic skill can make it easier for us to get information around us, we can write some information that we know and can spread it and finally people know the contents of the message. The research problem in research how can Know-What-Learn (KWL) Method improving student’s writing skill. The purpose of this research to know about how to improve writing skill for students and to find out about improving writing skill for students with Know-What-Learn (KWL) Method. The result of this research is Know-What-Learn (KWL) Method can improve student’s writing skill, can be proven through scores and percentages of criteria of success. Before using Know-What-Learn Method, the precentages of criteria success is 72,2% which is in the “Good”. After using KWL method is 88,8%, which is in the precentages of criteria success is “Excellent”. This percentage proves that this method has succeeded in improving students' writing skills, from 72,2% to 88,8%. The method can improve 16,6%.
