Abstract

Grammar is one of several skill that must be mastered by learners in learning English so that the words or sentences that are created can be understood. The objective of this study is to investigate whether there is significant difference between students who were taught by using Quizziz and the students who were taught by using Power point slide as media. This research was aimed to identify the effectiveness of Quizziz as media for the Junior High School students at SMPN 5 Kediri. This research focused on simple present tense by using Quizziz. This research is quantitative research which used quasi experimental design. The sample of this study were class VIII G as experimental class which used Quizziz as the media to teach grammar, and class VIII I as control class which used power point slide in conventional teaching. The total of sample of this research was 60 samples which were taken by purposive sampling. The data was obtained through pre-test and post-test to know the student’s grammar mastery before and after getting treatment. The data was calculated using SPSS version 25. The finding is obtained in the ANCOVA test, if the significance value (sig.) is less than 0.05 then there is significance difference. So, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. From the data, it can be seen that the significance value is obtained 0.000 which is lower than 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is significant difference between students who were taught by using Quizziz as media and students who were taught by power point slide. Also, the result of parameter estimates shows the significant value 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. It means that Quizziz is effective to be used in teaching grammar for the eight grade students.
