Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, IAIN Kediri. Advisor: (I) Nur Afifi, M.App.Ling, Ph.D. and (II) Nurul Aini, M. Pd Keywords: Reading, teaching reading, Discovery Learning, EFL learners. Reading is an activity that applies some ability to process reading texts to understand the contents of the reading. There are some problems faced by students in understanding the meaning of word and they cannot understand the point and intention of the text which they have read. Teachers have to use a suitable method for students in learning reading ability. This research was aimed to determine The use of Discovery Learning strategy to teach reading for EFL learners: experimental research. The design of this study was a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental group and a control group. The researcher used Discovery Learning in the experimental group and the control group used Previewing to teach students about the materials of teaching reading narrative text for reading comprehension. The participants of this study were 66 students from two classes. X IPS-1 as the experimental group consisted of 33 students and X IPS-2 as the control group consisting of 33 students from SMAN 1 Nganjuk. Data were collected by using tests, including pretest and posttest. The result of this study was calculated by using ANCOVA in SPSS 25 version for windows. That there was a significant difference between experimental group and control group it can be seen from mean score of experimental group was 84.42 and the mean of control group was 81.09. The calculated showed the result of the mean scores of students in the experimental class who were taught by using Discovery Learning got higher scores than the scores of students in the control class who were taught by using Previewing. The result indicated that the significant value is 0.000 smaller than 0.05 it means that the null of hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. This Discovery Learning as strategy to teach reading on narrative text is effective.
