Abstract

Writing is an important ability to be learned by the students to develop their ability to express their ideas, and establish or maintain social relationship by communicating with others. Writing also reinforces the use of sentence’s structure and tenses, idiom and vocabulary correctly in order to make the reader get the idea clearly. Sometimes students’ writing achievement depends on their personality that is self-confidence and anxiety. This study investigated whether there is significant correlation or not among students’ writing anxiety, self-confidence and writing achievement at Islamic Senior High School. The design was a quantitative research. The sample of this study was taken from second grade students of Islamic Senior High School 3 Kediri. The total number of the sample was 120 students. The data were obtain from anxiety and self-confidence questionnaire, and writing test. Descriptive statistic, Spearman’ Rank correlation using SPSS ver. 23.0 was administered to find out the significant correlation among students’ writing anxiety, self-confidence and writing achievement. The result showed that the significant value of the variables were different and higher than 0.05. The significant value of students’ writing anxiety and writing achievement was 0.807. It means that there was no significant correlation between students’ writing anxiety and writing achievement. Next, the significant value of students’ writing anxiety and self-confidence was 0.399 so there was no significant correlation between students’ writing anxiety and self-confidence. Then, the significant value of students’ self-confidence and writing achievement was 0.886 so there was no significant correlation between students’ selfconfidence and writing achievement. The last was significant value of student’s writing anxiety, self-confidence and writing achievement. It showed 0.848. It can be concluded that there was no significant correlation among students’ writing anxiety, self-confidence and writing achievement at Islamic Senior High School.
