Abstract

Blended learning is one of learning methods which becoming the innovation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. Since some schools use blended learning method as their learning process during Covid-19 pandemic, this study was aimed to investigate the students’ perception towards blended learning in studying English as a foreign language. This research was a quantitative research with survey design. The population of this research was taken from the eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Sukomoro Nganjuk. The researcher took the sample 30% (84 students) from 277 population. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire and interview to find out the students’ perception towards the implementation of blended learning in their learning English. After the data of questionnaire and interview were collected, the data were analyzed quantitatively and explained descriptively. The result of this study showed that the implementation of blended learning in studying English as a foreign language gets positive perception from students. The students considered that blended learning has some benefits to help them in learning English such as getting opportunity to have face-to-face interaction at school, getting understanding of the material well, empowering to expand their technological skills, and so on. In terms of challenges, the students revealed that the instruction given sometimes is difficult to understand on the online assignment, getting slow response from the teacher when online learning, teacher like chasing time in giving the explanation so that the students cannot understand the material optimally, and so on. Moreover, this study also found some suggestions from the students toward their problems during implementation of blended learning method, such as the schedule in face-to-face learning should need more time, the teacher also should give the clear instruction and enough time for doing and submitting the assignments in online activity, and so on. Even though there are some challenges during blended learning implementation, it can be concluded blended learning method is very useful in English language learning and it becomes a good solution that should be applied during Covid-19 Pandemic.
