Abstract

Songs are one of the teaching sources which is used to help English skill development. The implementation of songs bring up many benefits into the learning process. Thus, the study conducted to see if using songs in study make give benefits, Listening English song is one of the students' favorite hobbies.Therefore, this study discusses Students’ Perception on the Contribution of Listening to English Songs to Students’ English Skills Development of the English Department Students of IAIN Kediri. The purpose of this study is to identify, classify, and describe the perception of listening to English songs on the development of students' English skills.The design of this study is a quantitative approach and the use of a survey as the design of this study. The researcher used a questionnaire as an instrument to collect data. The questionnaire consists of 18 statements. The total population in this study was 255 students from the English Department in 2019/2021, and 100 students were selected as samples and taken randomly. The researcher concludes as follows: The highest score is in statement number 1 (89.4) that the song is very helpful for respondents in learning English. number 3 (86.4) English songs are a good medium to support speaking and listening activities, number 16 (87) the importance of mastering vocabulary by listening to songs. The results of this study indicate that students give positive responses and perceptions about the role of English songs in improving their listening skills. believe that English songs have a good impact on their language skills in listening skills also have something to do with speaking, pronunciation and increasing vocabulary knowledge.
