Abstract
Reading is one of the essential skills in English. In reading comprehension, students in Indonesia are challenging and easily bored to read stories or material. The teacher thinks about making the student interested in reading comprehension, especially in the report text material. One way that students are more interested in understanding reading by using Moodle as learning media. This study investigates the effectiveness of using Moodle in teaching comprehension report text to the tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Surabaya. The design of this study was quasi-experimental with quantitative research. The population was all students (120) of tenth grade at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Surabaya. The sample of this study was X IPA 2 class that consists of 25 students and X IPA 3 that consists of 25 students. The instrument of this study tested (Pretest and Post-test). The format of the test is multiple choice about report text. The analyzing data, the researcher used Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) by SPSS Program 21 version for windows. From the result of assumption by ANCOVA, there was indication that: (1) the requirements are distribution of the data is normal; (2) the variance between experimental and control group must be homogeneous; (3) there is no interaction pre-test and post-test; and (4) the relationship between pre-test and post-test is linear. The end of assumption of ANCOVA shown that the significant value is 0.000 smaller than 0.05 (0.000˂0.05) it means that there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H0) and accept the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using Moodle as Media Elearning is effective in teaching reading comprehension for tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Surabaya.
