Abstract
Writing, as one of the English skills, it is important to be improved particularly in academic life. According to the students, English was very difficult, especially for writing. They had low writing skill. So that, it is very important to solve the problem that students being faced. The objective of this study is to know the students ability before getting treatment, and after getting treatment then whether the students who were taught by using Instagram have better achievement than the students who were taught by using Picture Sheet. This research is quantitative research which used quasi experimental design. The participants of this study were class VIII A as experimental group which used Instagram as the media to teach Writing Descriptive Text, and class VIII B as control group which used Picture Sheet in conventional teaching. The total of participants of this research is 35 participants which are taken by purposive sampling. The data was obtained through pre-test and post-test to know the student’s ability before and after getting treatment. The data was counted using SPSS. ANCOVA test results showed that the distribution of data from the pre-test and post-test both experimental and control groups were normally distributed with pre-test values p (0.093)> α (0.05) for the experimental group and p (0.118)> α (0.05) for the control group. The norm distribution has shown from the post-test results with p (0.086)> α (0.05) for the experimental group and p (0.094 )> α (0.05) for the control group. The Lavene test results showed significant data with p (0.000)> α (0.05) which showed not homogeneous data. Nevertheless, the third test is the homogeneity test of the slope regression can not be fulfilled because the results of p (0.000)< α (0.05) which means there is significant between covariates with independent variables. The result of the test was analyzed by using ANCOVA. The last assumption in Liniear relationship between covariate and dependent variable showed p (0.000)
