Writing requires several aspects, such as organization, thinking, grammar and syntax, vocabulary and skills. This study proposes a teaching technique to help students write narrative texts using short animated videos. This study used a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental group and a control group. In the experimental group, the researcher used a short animated video, while in the control group, the researcher used a power-point slide to explain to the students about the material to teach narrative writing skills. The participants of this study were 56 students from two classes, namely class XIPA 2 as the experimental group consist of 28 students and X-IPA 5 as the control group consist 28 students from SMA Negeri 2 Kediri. Collecting data using tests, including pre-test and post-test writing. The results of this study indicate that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. It can be seen from the mean score of 70.46 in the experimental group and 69.28 in the control group. The mean scores of students in the experimental class who were taught by using short animated videos got higher scores than the scores of students in the control class who were taught by using ppt-slide. The hypothesis of this research is that there was a statistically significant difference in students' narrative writing skills before and after the application of short animated videos was accepted.
