Abstract

The resarch was aimed to analyse the type of conversational implicature in Pinocchio novel. Conversation is an interaction, which runs regularly between two participants or more. There are many ways to send a message not only through the conversation directly to the person, such novel. The novel is the media that commonly used in modern era. The novel related with implicit meaning that has been told in the utterances. This research is conducted in descriptive qualitative method which is source of data is dialogues containing conversational implicature spoken by the main character in Pinocchio novel. Based on this research background, this research analysed Pinocchio novel by applying the theory of Grice’s implicature. The data in this research are collected by reading the novel and observation the utterance that indicate conversational implicature. The result of this research showed that (1) on the conversation of main character’s utterances in Tania Zamorsky’s Pinocchio novel there are two types of conversational implicature: generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature, and (2) there are 11 utterance include particularized conversational implicature and 22 utterance include generalized conversational implicature. Therefore, generalized conversational implicature was mostly found in dialogue.
