Abstract
ABSTRACT Nadia Rohmatul Aulia. (2025). The Effectiveness Of Using Wordwall For Teaching Reading In Narrative Text At The Tenth Grade Students Of Man 1 Kediri. Thesis. Department of English Language Education. Faculty of Tarbiyah. State Islamic University of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd and (II) Dr. Dewi Nur Suci, S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: Wordwall, Picture Series, narrative text, reading comprehension This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using Wordwall as a digital learning medium to improve tenth-grade students reading comprehension of narrative texts at MAN 1 Kediri, compared to the Picture Series technique. A quasiexperimental design with a pretest posttest with experiment and control group was employed, involving two classes of 30 students each. The experimental group received reading instruction through Wordwall, while the control group was taught using Picture Series. After the treatment, both groups completed a posttest designed to measure their comprehension of narrative texts. The posttest data were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U Test because the normality test indicated that one of the groups did not follow a normal distribution. The findings revealed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean score (M = 91.10) than the control group (M = 83.77). Moreover, the Mann–Whitney U Test indicated a statistically significant difference between the two groups (U = 0.000, Z = –6.692, p < .001). These results demonstrate that students taught using Wordwall performed significantly better in reading comprehension than those taught through the Picture Series technique. The findings suggest that Wordwall’s interactive and game-based features enhance student engagement, motivation, and understanding of narrative texts. Therefore, Wordwall can serve as an effective alternative digital media tool for teaching reading at the senior high school level. This study recommends that English teachers incorporate interactive digital platforms to create more engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students.
