Abstract

English Morning Program has been implemented as an initiative program to improve students' proficiency in speaking through constant practice at MTsN 2 Kota Kediri. To evaluate the effect of the English Morning Program, it is important to understand students' perceived impact regarding it. Much literature has been directed at formal skills, whereas the English Morning Program has been focused more on students' habits as activities to improve communication skills as well. Because of this fact, this study aims to investigate the students’ perceived impact of English Morning Program towards their speaking skill at MTsN 2 Kota Kediri. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative approach through a survey to gather data about students' perceived impact of their understanding of English in relation to the students who are actively involved and participate in the English Morning Program. The questionnaire administered to 92 students at MTsN 2 Kota Kediri in order to have a comprehensive view of their point of view. Statistical descriptive analysis used to study and analyzed the data collected. The result of the study shows that the students’ perceived impact of English Morning Program towards students' speaking skills is positive, proven by the average mean score of 43.90. In the five indicators analyzed, students reported enthusiasm and comfort as well as a strong preference for the speaking activities provided. Regarding the facilities indicator, the findings show that students feel helped by the availability of organized learning resources, where the availability of guidebooks provided by the program is a supporting factor in their learning process. In addition, the frequency of routine activities is able to build students' confidence and speaking habits.
