Abstract
Vocabulary is a fundamental component of language learning, particularly in mastering English as a second or foreign language. Students with limited vocabulary often encounter difficulties in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Therefore, effective strategies are needed to enhance vocabulary learning, especially for young learners. This study investigates the effectiveness of using a pop-up book as an interactive and engaging medium to improve vocabulary mastery among fourth-grade students at SDN Kebonrejo 1. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi experimental design. The participants were 34 students from two fourth-grade classes in the 2024/2025 academic year. The experimental group was taught using a pop-up book, while the control group received instruction using traditional textbooks. A pre-test and post-test, each consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions, were administered to assess students’ vocabulary mastery before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using ANCOVA with the assistance of SPSS version 20. The findings revealed a significant difference in vocabulary achievement between the two groups. The experimental group’s mean score increased from 56.94 to 87.76, while the control group improved from 51.41 to 79.65. The ANCOVA test showed a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), confirming the effectiveness of Pop-up Books for enhancing vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, A pop-up book provides a visually appealing and An interactive learning experience that increases student motivation, engagement, and retention of new vocabulary. These findings suggest that a pop-up book It is a valuable instructional tool for improving vocabulary acquisition in the elementary English language learning contexts.
