Aprillia Widiya Ningrum, 2015. Improving the skill of the Tenth Grade Student of SMA Pawyatan Daha Kediri in Writing Recount Text by Using Picture Series. Thesis, Tarbiyah, English Department, The State College of Islamic Studies of Kediri, Advisors (1) Drs. Agus Edi Winarto, M.Pd. (2) Burhanudin Syaifulloh, M.Ed. Keyword: Writing Skills, Recount Text, Picture Series. Based on the observation that has been done, it is known that the class X in SMA Pawyatan Daha still has a very low ability in the use of past tense. It can be seen from the preliminary study that have been done that students still confused to use the past tense. While, in writing recount text, students are required to use the verb form changes and 'to be' in the past form. This has encouraged the study was conducted. Based on the problems above, the researcher wants to implement Picture Series. Picture Series will help students to provide stimulus in the form of pictures to the students to facilitate the students come up with ideas that exist and students can write essays in sequence and regularly. Thus, this thesis is conducted to improve writing skills on recount text of tenth-grade students SMA Pawyatan Daha Kediri by using Picture Series. The objective of the study is to know whether the implementation of picture series improve writing skills recount text of tenth-grade students of SMA Pawyatan Daha Kediri. The research design of this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study consists of premilinary study and two cycles, preliminary study was used to obtain the data before treatment. Then on the cycle 1 and cycle II. implemented by applying technique picture series. To collect data, instruments were used test. The data analysis was presented in the table of progressive analysis, and also in descriptive explanation. The subject of the research is the first year students of SMA Pawyatan Daha, the class consist of 32 students. The criterion of success is students' score test if at least 80% students get 78 minimally from the criteria of minimum score (KKM). The result of quantitative analysis showed that using picture series could improve students' writing skills on recount text of the tenth grade student of SMA Pawyatan Daha. It could be seen from the result of the student's achievements tests and the student's involvement which increased continuously during the application techniques. The average score of students was 69,19 and the percentage of the successful students was 12,5% before techniques applied as the indications that this score categorized into a insufficient level. After having treatment in the cycle I, the student's average score improved to 76,40 and the percentage of the successful students is 43,75% which categorized into a sufficient level. In the cycle II, the student's average score improved to 78,78 and the percentage of the successful students is 81,25% which was categorized good level. This improvement was supported by qualitative data.
