The State College for Islamic Studies of Kediri, Advisors: (1) Dr. Mukhammad Abdullah, M.Ag (2) Nur Afifi, M.App. Ling. Key words: Numbered Heads Together, Reading Skill, Recount Text. In learning of English language, there are four skills which should be taught to students. As one of the English language skills, reading plays an important role in helping students to understand English text book. In terms of understanding reading skill on recount text, a lot of students have difficulties in understanding on recount text, especially the second graders of MTs Negeri Puncu. It is caused by several factors, they are: the teaching learning process which is monotonous, the lack of vocabularies and the students' boredom when they had to read a text. Based on the problems above, the researcher wants to implement Numbered Heads Together teaching strategy. Numbered Heads Together (NHT) is one of the Cooperative Learning methods used by the researcher to improve the students' reading skill on recount text. The research design used in this research is Classroom Action Reseach. In this research, the researcher uses the instruments: observation and test. The subject of the research is the second year students of MTs Negeri Puncu, the class consist of 36 students. The criterion of success is the students' score test, if there is more than 80% students that get 78 minimally from the criteria of minimum score (KKM). The result of this research shows that the researcher has two cycles to implement Numbered Heads Together successfully. The researcher's target is to increase 80% successful students in reading skill on recount text through Numbered Heads Together. It can be proven from the result of preliminary until the second cycle. In cycle 1, the researcher conducted in 2 meetings. The result of the score test, the average of the students' score was 55,56. Whereas from the result of observation, we can conclude that some students still did not pay attention to the teacher explanation, some students still asked the researcher to translate the text, whereas they bring a dictionary and most of students got below standard score (78). It means that cycle 1 not successful and it is needed to revise the treatment to be better. Therefore the researcher gave a lot of time in cycle 2. This cycle conducted in 3 meetings. The result of the score test, the average of the students' score was 84,17 and the percentage was 80,28%. Whereas from the result of observation, there where improvement on the students' activeness. In the other words, cycle 2 was successful and it does not need to revise the treatment.
