Improving Student Ability in Writing Descritive Text Using Clustering Technique to Seventh Grade Students of MtsN Pagu Kediri, English Department, Faculty of Education, State Collenge For Islamic Studies(STAIN) Kediri. Advisor: (1) Toyyibah, SS. M.Pd (2) Bahruddin, SS.M.Pd. Key word: Writing, Clustering Technique, Descriptive Text This research was conducted at the seventh grade students of MTsN Pagu in the academic year 2014-2015. The purpose of this research was to know how the clustering technique can improve students ability in writing descriptive text. Based on the writers observation in MTsN Pagu, he found student problem in writing skill especially in writing descriptive paragraph. When the writer gave exercise to student to make descriptive paragraph, they were still confused about how to make it. The result was that all of the students got under 75, under the Minimum Mastery Creterion (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum -KKM). To solve the problem, the research applied clustering technique in teaching writing. The research design used in this study in Classroom Action Research (CAR). This action research was conducted in cycle. The research procedure was preliminary study, cycle 1 cycle II comprising a number of steps. Those are planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. There are three meeting in a cycle, In collecting the data, the researcher used questionaire, interview, observation, cheecklists, field notes, and writing test. The analysis of this study shows that in cycle I the research was unsuccesful and cycle II was successful and there was an improvement from students ability. It can be seen from the different mean in the preliminary study and the result of cycle. The improvement of students' ability in writing descriptive text could be seen from the increasing of students' mean writing score from 63.25 in the preliminary study, and 70.75 in the first cycle to 81.64 in the second cycle. The result shows the clustering technique can improve the students ability in writing descriptive paragraph Based on the result of study the research concludes that using clustering technique could improve the ability in writing descriptive paragraph of the seventh grade students MTsN Pagu in academic year 2014/2015. It is suggested that English teacher should implement the clustering technique as an alternative strategy in writing subject.
