Abstract
Everyone has each problem in their life. It occurs from various things, includes their own self. Those problems are the impact of some situations around them. People must understand the conflict and choose the best way to overcome it. This research expresses two points. Those are the main character‟s psychological conflict reflected in her life and the way mental toughness solves the main character‟s psychological conflict in novel. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. It fits with the nature of qualitative study which is describing the data. The descriptive data is stated in the research object. The “Afghanistan, Where God Only Comes to Weep” novel by Siba Shakib is a primary data sources of the research. The novel took several data, such as descriptive paragraph, narrative paragraph, and the conversation. Those data identified and classified corresponding to the research questions. There are two theory used to analyze those finding. The first is a psychological conflict theory based on Kurt Lewin (1948). And the second is a mental toughness theory based on Peter Clough (2001). There are some results of this research. According to analysis of the research, Shirin-Gol as the major character cope some psychological conflicts. She is a poor woman. She received many unfair treatments during her life. It affected to her, especially her emotional. However, she always tried to understand the problems happen. Opposite of those misfortunes, Shirin-Gol is a strong woman. She can manage her mental sensitivity well. She responds positively to many challenges and pressures. It is because she manages her mental sensitivity well. Therefore, she gets a better life even tough in a difficult condition. From those results, it can be concluded that Mental Toughness is an impact of Psychological Conflict. People who have a self awareness and a desire to respond better their adversity, pressure and stressors will develop their mental toughness. So, the mental toughness can make them effectively deals with their stressful situations, especially their psychological conflict.
