Abstract
Reading is one of the important parts for Students. However, students are less in reading for some reasons. One of them is reading is not a habit, both done in their spare time or done to increase knowledge. The objective of this research was to know whether there was a positive correlation between students’ reading interest and their reading comprehension at University level in the academic year of 2019/2020. This research was a quantitative research. The research design of this research is correlational research. The sample of the research was gained through simple random sampling. The population of the research was taken from second semester in English Department of IAIN Kediri. the researcher took 72 students from 240 population. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaires to measure students’ reading interest and test for reading comprehension. After the data of students’ reading interest and reading comprehension were collected, the data were statistically computed, to find out the correlation between students’ reading interest and students’ reading comprehension. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistic and Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS 22 version. From SPSS calculation the researcher get the significance value is smaller than the significant level (0.014 < 0.05). The coefficient correlation is 0.288 based on interpretation the strength of correlation is low correlation. Since the significant level is smaller than 0.05, the null hypothesis is rejected. It means that there is significant correlation between students reading interest and their reading comprehension .The coefficient correlation is higher than critical value of r-table (0.288 > 0.235). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. However, the result indicated is still have correlation and also low significant correlation between students’ reading interest and their reading comprehension in English Department of IAIN Kediri.
