Abstract
Motivation plays a crucial role in determining students’ engagement and persistence in learning English, especially in students’ vocabulary mastery. Vocabulary mastery, as one of the key components of language proficiency, is essential for supporting students’ ability to understand and use the language effectively. Recently, teaching vocabulary in English classroom can categorize the use of innovative tool such as Kahoot. This research aims to investigate the correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary mastery using Kahoot at Junior High School. This research used quantitative method with a correlational design. The selected sampling technique was cluster random sampling. The participants of this research were 86 students from seventh-grade (VII-B, VII-G, VII-H). The data were collected through motivation questionnaire and test for vocabulary mastery using Kahoot. Kendall’s Tau was applied in this study to analyze the data. The findings of the research reported that there was a significant correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary mastery using Kahoot at seventh grade of MTsN 9 Kediri. The significant value was 0,000 (P < 0,05). It means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary mastery using Kahoot at Junior High School. This indicates that students with higher motivation tended to have better their vocabulary mastery.
