Abstract
NurKholidah, Putri. (2025). The Influence of Cake Application Towards Students’ Speaking Skill at SMAN 1 Pare. Departmaent of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Bahruddin, S.S, M.Pd. and (II) Mohammad Muhyidin M.Pd. Keywords: Cake application is a digital English learning application that provides short, engaging short videos and speaking practice features designed to improve learners’ speaking performance. Through real-time feedback, repetition drills, and pronunciation guidance, Cake allows users to actively practice speaking skills anytime and anywhere using mobile devices. Its interactive content, including native speaker videos and automatic speech recognition, supports learners in developing fluency, vocabulary, and accurate pronunciation. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Cake application in improving students’ speaking skills at class XI SMAN 1 Pare. This research used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. Two groups of eleventh-grade students were involved: an experimental group that used the Cake application and a control group that received conventional instruction. Students' speaking skills were measured using pre-test and post-test scores, focusing on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. Because the data did not meet the assumption of normality, non-parametric tests were applied to analyze the results. The findings showed that the experimental group’s mean score increased from 50.00 to 69.00, while the control group’s score only rose from 50.89 to 57.78. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed significant improvement in both groups (p = 0.000), and the Mann-Whitney U Test revealed a significant difference between the post-test results of the two groups (p = 0.000). These results indicate that the Cake application is an effective tool to improve students’ speaking performance by offering interactive content, real-time feedback, and flexible learning opportunities.
