Abstract
This study analyzes the extent to which the English textbook published by the Ministry of Education Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress for Grade X reflects the principles of differentiated content based on Tomlinson’s (2001) framework. The analysis focuses on five indicators: readiness-based variation, student choice, learning profiles, interest-based content, and accessible content. This research uses a qualitative content analysis method, 28 tasks from the first semester of the textbook were examined through an analytical checklist. To strengthen the evaluation, the study also employed Tomlinson’s (2011) principles of material development: exposure, engagement, variety, and relevance. The results show that while the textbook consistently addresses students’ interests, learning styles, and accessibility, it lacks sufficient variation based on readiness levels. Only 4 out of 28 tasks provided readiness-based variation. However, all tasks fulfill key pedagogical principles, suggesting strong material quality. It can be concluded that the textbook is partially aligned with differentiated instruction, making it a useful resource when complemented by teacher-led adaptations to meet diverse student needs.
