Abstract
Vocabulary mastery is very important in learning English. One of the methods to improve the students' vocabulary is using picture dictionary. Picture dictionary is a list of English vocabulary with pictures which related to the topic or the materials in the teaching and learning process. The researcher and the English teacher diagnosed that the main problem why the students of the first year students of MTs Manba'ul Afkar Sendang - Banyakan - Kediri is still difficult in learning English, that is because the students' vocabulary mastery is still weak. So, based on this problem, the researcher wants to improve the students' vocabulary mastery by using picture dictionary. The design of this research is classroom action research (CAR). In this research, the researcher has to do some cycles in order to successful to getting the targetted score 70% of the students get minimum score 76. Every cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Moreover, to collecting the data, the researcher uses observation checklist and vocabulary test.
